As stated on this wiki page, the Photivo software needs a new icon.
I currently do not have much spare time and thus cannot afford the time to write a nice blog entry, so I'll shamingly copy and paste the text (I hope mike won't mind!):
Icon
Photivo needs a new icon. This is your chance as a designer to help an open source project without coding.

Current design
As you see the current one should resemble the mode dial on modern cameras, since Photivo aims to give you as much control over your image as your camera does. Furthermore many other photo apps build their icons on the aperture or the lens, which is pretty boring with time  The font used (mm stenxil) is made by me, you can find it here.

Design goals
For basic makeovers the current theme should stay. I would also appreciate the use of mm stenxil for "photivo". However, new creative ideas (i.e. not similar to those of other photo apps) are also very welcome. Versions matching different designs like Faenza, Tango or others would be perfect.

Reward
Since Photivo is just a hobby project, there is no material prize available. Of course you will get a big thank you and be mentioned on this website.

But...what is Photivo? Let's read the beginning of the About page:
"Photivo is a free and open source photo processor. It handles your RAW files as well as your bitmap files in a non-destructive 16 bit processing pipe with gimp workflow integration and batch mode.

Photivo tries to provide the best algorithms available; even if this implies some redundancy. So, to my knowledge, it offers the most flexible and powerful denoise, sharpen and local contrast (fake HDR) algorithms in the open source world. (If not, let's port them) Although, to get the desired results, there may be a quite steep learning curve.

Photivo is just a developer, no manager and no “Gimp”. It is intended to be used in a workflow together with digiKam/F-Spot/Shotwell and Gimp. It needs a quite strong computer and is not aimed at beginners.

A personal note: I have not much time for developing Photivo, so please help each other with questions, and please contribute to the project."

As stated in this blog entry, DeviantArt is looking for new GMs (Gallery Moderator).
They need a GM for the Linux part of Customization/Skins & Themes - and some other categories.

"The Volunteer Gallery Moderator (GM) forms a relationship with the artistic community and serves as a communication bridge between the artists and the administration. The GM is also helps motivate and encourage artists through activities such as events, news features, contests and daily deviations."

You can submit applications here.
Note that "Due to the large volume of applications received, it is not possible to respond to everyone that applies. Those being considered will be contacted."

OtisBee is the Gallery Moderator (GM) of the Customization/Skins & Themes gallery. His current project is to enhance one's experience while browsing the gallery.

Earn 10 points
In order to reach his goal, he intends to add descriptions to each and every category and sub-category of the gallery. With almost 300 (sub-)categories, there is a lot of work. That's where OtisBee needs some help. Those who help will be rewarded. 10 points per description.

How on earth does this concern linux-users?
Well, there are some Linux categories, we supposedly are those who better know what should be said to describe these categories.
Also, I assume that plenty of GNU/linux users dual-boot with Windows or Mac OSX and thus may know some of the apps/categories listed in the Customization/Skins & Themes.

And there is something else
In order to improve the gallery OtisBee does not only want to add descriptions. He is also considering the possibility to re-arrange, remove, add or merge categories.
Have you been wondering where to submit your conkyrc file? Have you ever been annoyed by the lack of emerald category?
Tell him and perhaps the categories will change.

For further information, I recommend you to read his journal.
